[edit] Purchasing Software

Many online vendors such as JourneyEd or CampusTech offer academic pricing when purchasing software – you’ll just need to show your student ID or a copy of your transcript (which you can get from logging on to accessBCC) so be sure to ask before ordering!

[edit] Accessibility Options

There are a variety of accessibility options available on the Mac and PC platforms. These options allow students to set up their personal computers to enable speech recognition, text-to-speech conversation and screen magnification.

[edit] Research Help

The best place to begin your research is with the BCC library. The library has a wide range of services available for eLearning students.

Librarians are available to answer your research questions or assist you in locating information. If the LRC does not have the resources you need, the librarian can refer you to an appropriate source.

Ask a Librarian is the Library's on-line e-mail service. Once you complete the form, you will receive a response in 24 hours or less!!! You can also contact the Library by calling 508-678-2811 x 2108.

Not sure how to get started with writing a research paper? The Writing Lab has created a getting started with research checklist to help guide students through the research process.

The Writing Lab also has a great guide to assist students in evaluating research resources.

For additional help with writing, please contact the Writing Lab.

[edit] Plagiarism

There is a lot of talk about plagiarism but do you really understand what it is and why faculty members get so upset if you plagiarize material?

Read the Writing Lab’s plagiarism handout to learn more about what it is, view some examples of plagiarism, and learn how to avoid it.

Remember, plagiarism is considered academic negligence and is subject to disciplinary action as stated in the Code of Conduct section of the Student Handbook.

Here are some additional resources to assist you in understanding plagiarism:

[edit] SafeAssign

Your instructor may utilize the SafeAssignment feature in your eLearningBCC course site. When a paper is submitted using this feature, SafeAssign searches for textual matches against a comprehensive web-based database and other sources. An originality report is then generated for the instructor who can then determine if plagiarism has occurred.

Many instructors use SafeAssign as a way for students to check their own papers before they are submitted for grading. Others use it to verify all submitted work. Your instructor will provide you with information as to how SafeAssign is used within your class.
